Raipur, Jan 22: In a significant achievement for Chhattisgarh\u2019s tribal education system, the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS), Kosambuda, has secured the first rank nationally in the \u2018Model Youth Gram Sabha\u2019 (MYGS) competition. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj will felicitate the winning team at a national award ceremony in New Delhi on 28 January 2026.
The school outperformed more than 800 institutions across the country to claim the top spot. Launched on 30 October 2025, the MYGS initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and the Ministry of Education. It aims to immerse youth in the democratic process through simulated Gram Sabha sessions designed to address grassroots issues.
Dr Kamlakant Yadav, Principal of EMRS Kosambuda, credited the success to the students’ hard work and their nuanced understanding of rural development. “This success reflects our students’ deep engagement with participatory governance. This platform has allowed them to closely observe and replicate the decision-making processes that drive our villages,” Dr Yadav said.
The competition saw the shortlisting of the top six teams nationwide based on their discipline in conducting mock sessions and the innovation displayed in solving local challenges. The initiative is being viewed as a milestone in sensitizing the next generation toward India’s governance systems and preparing them as responsible citizens.
