Addressing the nation from the Red Fort, PM Modi said, \u201cWe have decided to form a task force for next-generation reform. Our aim now is to bring about all kinds of reforms.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a festive note, the Prime Minister promised a \u201cdouble Diwali\u201d for citizens this year, hinting at a major economic announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis Diwali, I am going to celebrate a double Diwali for you. The countrymen are going to get a big gift, there will be a drastic cut on GST on common household items,\u201d he said, signalling sweeping changes in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PM Modi emphasised the urgency of reviewing GST rates, calling it the \u201cneed of the hour\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He announced that the government is preparing a new-generation GST reform aimed at reducing the tax burden on common citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGST rates will be reduced drastically. Tax will be reduced for the common people,\u201d he declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The announcement comes as GST marks its eighth anniversary, having evolved into one of India\u2019s most significant post-independence tax reforms.
