Washington, President Donald Trump said Iran had agreed to reopen a critical global shipping route while warning that US military pressure would continue until a broader agreement is finalised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing a Turning Point USA gathering in Arizona, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz was \u201cfully open and ready for business and full passage,\u201d signalling a potential easing of tensions in one of the world\u2019s most sensitive energy corridors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, he made clear that US forces would maintain a strong presence. \u201cThe naval blockade\u2026 will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100 per cent complete and fully signed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump projected confidence in ongoing negotiations. \u201cThis process is getting along well\u2026 most of the points are already negotiated and agreed to,\u201d he said, adding that the outcome would ensure that \u201cIran\u2026 will never have a nuclear weapon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his speech Trump indicated his plans for recovering what he called \u201cnuclear dust,\u201d referring to residue from earlier US strikes in Iran. \u201cWe\u2019re going to get it\u2026 we\u2019re going to take it back home to the USA,\u201d he said, suggesting joint operations involving excavation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump linked the developments to broader regional diplomacy, claiming that recent US efforts had stabilised tensions beyond Iran. He said there had been \u201can unprecedented ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon,\u201d adding that the development had not occurred \u201cin 78 years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He thanked several countries for their role in regional engagement. \u201cI want to thank the country of Pakistan\u2026 and its great field marshal\u2026 I also want to thank Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait\u2026 they\u2019ve all helped tremendously,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump sharply criticised US allies in Europe, arguing that Washington should rely less on traditional partnerships. \u201cThey were absolutely useless when we needed them,\u201d he said, referring to NATO, while asserting that \u201cwe have to rely on ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump said the US had built \u201cthe greatest military the world has ever seen\u201d and emphasised self-reliance in future engagements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
