Raipur, July 28: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday launched a comprehensive sports development drive by earmarking \u20b9100 crore under the Mukhyamantri Khel Utkrisht Mission during the valedictory session of the state’s inaugural Sports Conclave in Raipur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing sports administrators, policymakers, scientists, and veteran athletes at the day-long event organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Chief Minister Sai said the allocated funds will be utilized to strengthen sports infrastructure and nurture grassroots talent across all districts. He added that the state government has approved a list of 156 outstanding sportspersons who will be granted preferential benefits in government employment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting regional grassroots initiatives, Chief Minister Sai noted that mass sporting events such as the Bastar Olympics and Sarguja Olympics have drawn massive youth participation, recording nearly four lakh and 3.5 lakh participants respectively. He emphasized that alongside the Khelo India Tribal Games, these platforms are designed to provide quality competitive exposure to sports enthusiasts from rural and remote tribal belts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the event, Chief Minister Sai distributed cash incentives to 11 individual medal winners and three team event winners who brought laurels to Chhattisgarh at the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games 2026. Individual gold medallists received \u20b92 lakh each, silver medallists were awarded \u20b91.5 lakh each, and bronze medallists got \u20b91 lakh each. In team categories, the gold-winning women’s football team received \u20b922 lakh, the silver-winning men’s football team received \u20b916.5 lakh, and the bronze-winning men’s hockey squad was awarded \u20b99 lakh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among individual awardees, weightlifter Nikita was honoured for winning a gold medal, while Rishika Kashyap (weightlifting), Anushka Bhagat (swimming), alongside athletics competitors Lakshman Sodhi, Abhishek, Damru Kumar, Gajendra Thakur, and Tilak Barse received cash prizes for their silver-medal performances. Bronze medal recipients included Manish Kumar (athletics), Nikhil Khalko (swimming), and Lucky Babu (weightlifting). Overall, Chhattisgarh secured 19 medals\u20143 gold, 10 silver, and 6 bronze\u2014at the national event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Arun Sao said the state government is formulating a long-term strategy to identify and groom athletic talent starting from the primary school level. He noted that the geographical conditions of Chhattisgarh naturally endow its youth with physical stamina and mental toughness, which will now be supported through a structured action plan based on recommendations from national sports experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conclave was attended by prominent sports figures and administrators, including Olympian Jinson Johnson, former international cricketer Rajesh Chauhan, Sports Department Secretary Yashwant Kumar, Sports Director Tanuja Salam, Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI) National Secretary Dr Piyush Jain, Khelo India Deputy Director General Mayank Srivastava, and Chhattisgarh Olympic Association Secretary General Vikram Sisodiya.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
