Raipur, Oct 24: <\/strong>Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday announced that the state government will institute the Lokkala Alankaran Award in the name of renowned Pandwani maestro Padma Vibhushan Teejan Bai starting this year during Rajyotsav, alongside developing her native village Ganiyari as a ‘Kala Gram’ (art village).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing the Pandwani Mahasammelan organised by Gyanshrot Lok Kala Manch at Banbarad village in the Ahiwara Assembly constituency of Durg district on International Artists’ Day, the Chief Minister affirmed the state\u2019s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage. He announced an incentive of \u20b925,000 for each of the 70 participating troupes, comprising Pandwani, Panthi, and tribal dance performers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Minister Sai emphasized that folk arts are a living expression of Chhattisgarh’s history, values, and identity. He noted that passing down these traditional art forms to future generations remains a collective responsibility. Recalling Teejan Bai\u2019s contributions, he said her dedication brought global acclaim to Pandwani\u2014a unique folk art form depicting the Mahabharata through singing, acting, and expressive gestures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To honour Teejan Bai’s legacy, her native village Ganiyari will be developed into an art village, and the local high school will be named in her honour. The newly instituted Lokkala Alankaran Award, presented during the annual Rajyotsav celebrations, aims to inspire emerging folk artists across the state to preserve traditional performing arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Highlighting measures to bolster the creative sector, Chief Minister Sai commended Gyanshrot Lok Kala Manch for its 46 years of continuous service in keeping folk traditions alive. He commended Padma Shri Dr Usha Barle and the team behind the event for providing a platform to local talent and connecting youth with their roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Minister outlined steps taken by the government to support the state’s entertainment sector, including the constitution of the Chhattisgarh Film Development Board and the development of a Film City in Nava Raipur. These projects aim to expand opportunities for Chhattisgarhi cinema while generating employment for local artists and creative youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to local infrastructure demands, Chief Minister Sai announced the upgradation of Banbarad Middle School to a high school and approved the construction of a bituminous road linking the Ahiwara railway crossing to Atal Parisar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

School Education Minister Gajendra Yadav praised artists for sustaining the state’s cultural soul through forms like Pandwani, Panthi, Bharthari, Dadariya, and Suwa. The event was also addressed by MLA Rikesh Sen, with Padma Shri Dr Usha Barle delivering the welcome address.
