Raipur, July 24: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday announced that his government will introduce a bill to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state during the upcoming winter session of the State Assembly.

Speaking to reporters at Raipur airport before departing for Karnataka, Chief Minister Sai said a five-member high-level committee headed by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai has commenced its work to draft the framework. He added that following the panel’s deliberations, the draft proposal will be placed before the Cabinet for approval and subsequently tabled in the House.

Reacting to recent protests by Congress workers in the state capital, the Chief Minister alleged that demonstrators resorted to stone-pelting, likening the incidents to violence previously witnessed in Kashmir. He emphasised that while every citizen holds the democratic right to stage peaceful protests, no one will be permitted to take the law into their own hands, warning of strict legal action against those involved in violence.

During his visit to Karnataka, Chief Minister Sai is scheduled to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations at Sri Sathya Sai Village and interact with members of the local intelligentsia.
