Raipur, Aug 03: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai felicitated Commonwealth Games silver medallist Gyaneshwari Yadav at his official residence on Monday, announcing a financial incentive of ₹30 lakh and an out-of-turn promotion to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for the Rajnandgaon-born weightlifter.
Yadav scripted history in Glasgow by winning the silver medal in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting event with a total lift of 199 kg, bringing international acclaim to Chhattisgarh during her maiden Commonwealth Games appearance.
Welcoming the athlete, Chief Minister Sai said her victory reflects exceptional discipline, perseverance, and dedication despite resource constraints during her early training years. He noted that her success on the global stage will inspire young girls across the state to pursue sports with confidence.
Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to sports infrastructure and athlete development, Sai stated that out-of-turn promotions and financial rewards form a core part of Chhattisgarh’s sports policy aimed at preparing local talent for future international events, including the Olympic and Asian Games.
