Raipur, Sep 23: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai gave a major infrastructure push to the Birgaon Municipal Corporation on Wednesday, inaugurating and laying foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹135 crore and announcing new works valued at ₹110 crore.

Addressing a public gathering in Birgaon, Sai said the rapidly growing urban and industrial hub requires systematic civic expansion. He affirmed the state government’s commitment to building modern, well-equipped cities as part of its vision for a developed Chhattisgarh.

The newly launched projects comprise over ₹94 crore under the Municipal Corporation and ₹38 crore under the Public Works Department (PWD). Foundation stones were also laid for schemes worth ₹16 crore under the Nagarotthan Yojana. In total, sanctions for the Birgaon municipal area have crossed ₹160 crore over the past two-and-a-half years.

Among the major announcements was ₹82 crore allocated for a new Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to upgrade sewerage management in the area. Sai also earmarked ₹10 crore for overhead water tanks and pipeline expansion, ₹5 crore for roads and drainage, ₹5 crore for a sports ground at Sarora, and ₹5 crore for a modern Nalanda Campus study facility for competitive exam aspirants.

In a key administrative decision, the Chief Minister announced that Birgaon will feature one of the state’s ten proposed Model Registry Offices, enabling online land registration and automatic property mutation. Furthermore, land surveys will be conducted in seven localities—including Rawanbhatha, Banjari Nagar, and Shaktipara—to grant residential land ownership rights (pattas) to eligible families.

Highlighting welfare initiatives, Sai noted that around 1,600 houses are being constructed daily under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, alongside direct financial transfers under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana to over 68 lakh women.

During the event, the Chief Minister flagged off two new fire tenders for the civic body, performed Griha Pravesh ceremonies for housing scheme beneficiaries, and honored local Safai Mitras and Swachhata Didis. He also planted a Rudraksha sapling on the Government College campus under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ drive.

Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, MP Brijmohan Agrawal, and local MLA Motilal Sahu were among the key dignitaries present.
