India issues travel advisory for citizens in France amid violent protests
Paris: The Indian Embassy in France has issued a travel and safety advisory urging Indian nationals and travellers in the Western European country to remain vigilant following violent clashes stemming from anti-government demonstrations.
The unrest, sparked in late September over school conditions and teacher shortages, has expanded into nationwide protests driven by soaring living costs, high fuel prices, and budget cuts.
Indian citizens residing in or visiting France are advised to exercise caution, avoid crowded areas, and follow updates from local authorities and the embassy’s official social media handles.
The advisory follows localised curfews and transport disruptions across several regions after riots caused widespread destruction and thousands of arrests on October 17.
French President Emmanuel Macron has vowed to use all available legal tools to prevent further violence ahead of a new round of demonstrations scheduled for October 24.
Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu and Interior Minister Laurent Nunez noted that targeted curfews and the planned deployment of soldiers from the Army’s Operation Sentinelle will help maintain public order.
