Jaishankar hosts African Heads of Mission, discusses multipolar world

New Delhi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hosted Heads of Mission from African countries on Saturday, with discussions centering on the expanding India-Africa partnership, the rise of Africa in a multipolar world, and new avenues for people-centric cooperation.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar shared details of the meeting on X, noting that the engagement highlighted shared histories, common aspirations, and robust South-South solidarity. The discussions also explored diverse aspects of bilateral cooperation and mutual growth.
Earlier this month, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar chaired a conference of India’s Heads of Mission in Africa in Addis Ababa, emphasizing that India and Africa share deep linkages rooted in Global South solidarity, strategic autonomy, multipolarity, and common developmental goals.
The conference followed an address by the External Affairs Minister in the Ethiopian capital, where he outlined a vision stating that future partnerships must build local capabilities rather than foster dependencies. He also advocated for a reformed UN Security Council featuring fair representation for Africa.
Reaffirming India’s diplomatic commitment during its G20 Presidency in 2023, the External Affairs Minister highlighted that India worked resolutely to secure permanent membership for the African Union. He stressed that the same inclusive logic must guide ongoing reforms within the UN Security Council.
