Jagdalpur, Three men aged between 25 and 30 died after their Scorpio overturned and plunged into a pond in Kalipur area near Jagdalpur on Saturday night. The accident occurred around 9:00 PM IST when seven persons were returning from a post-cricket match celebration.
Preliminary reports suggest the group was returning to the city after a cricket tournament in Kalipur village. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while attempting to drop one of the occupants, Manish Never, at his residence. The SUV veered off the road and submerged in a roadside pond.
Two occupants, identified as Bhavesh Nage and Shekhar Nage, were trapped inside the submerged vehicle and died on the spot. Local residents rescued Manish Never in critical condition and rushed him to Maharani Hospital, where he succumbed during treatment.
The driver of the vehicle managed to escape the submerged car, while three other occupants were rescued with the assistance of villagers. Jagdalpur police and local administration officials reached the spot shortly after the incident to supervise the rescue operation.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident, including reports of alcohol consumption prior to the crash.
