Raipur, Jan 31: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday announced that a team of central scientists and state officials will frame a special policy tailored to Chhattisgarh’s unique agro-climatic conditions within a week. Presiding over a high-level review meeting alongside Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at Mahanadi Bhavan, the Union Minister emphasised crop diversification and the promotion of aromatic paddy to enhance farmers’ income.
Chouhan urged the state to encourage small and marginal farmers to adopt allied activities such as animal husbandry, fisheries, and forestry. He stressed that agricultural research must translate into direct benefits for the farming community. The Minister also reviewed the progress of several flagship initiatives, including the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, the Horticulture Mission, and the Mission for Self-Reliance in Pulses.
During the session, the Union Minister underscored the potential for palm oil and ‘makhana’ cultivation in the state. He directed officials to ensure 100% saturation for eligible beneficiaries under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Chouhan lauded the state government’s efforts under Chief Minister Sai, noting that the “double-engine” coordination is creating “limitless possibilities” for agricultural innovation.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his gratitude to the Centre, stating that Chhattisgarh is receiving significant support for its rural and agricultural sectors. He added that the new policy framework would provide a roadmap to modernise traditional farming and integrate it with advanced technologies and equipment.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam, and senior bureaucrats including Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel and Agriculture Production Commissioner Shaila Nigar.
