Chhattisgarh completes drone surveys in all 15,791 villages under SVAMITVA scheme
Raipur, March 24: Chhattisgarh has achieved a major milestone in rural land reforms with the completion of drone surveys in all 15,791 notified villages under the SVAMITVA scheme. The completion of the survey phase marks a foundational step in establishing digitised property ownership records across the state’s rural inhabited areas.
Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh informed the Lok Sabha that as of 18 March 2026, drone surveys were finalised for the entire notified area. Following the surveys, property cards have been prepared for 2,709 villages. So far, 2.07 lakh property cards have been generated, of which 1,33,487 have been distributed to beneficiaries.
The SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme aims to provide rural residents with ‘Records of Rights.’ These property cards serve as legal titles, enabling villagers to use their property as collateral to access institutional credit and other financial services. However, the Union government noted that a formal assessment of the scheme’s impact on financial inclusion is yet to be conducted.
The implementation involves close coordination between the Panchayati Raj institutions and state revenue authorities. Gram Panchayats and revenue officials collaborate on ground-level tasks, including land demarcation, map verification, and dispute resolution.
District-wise data reveals that Mahasamund, Dhamtari, Balodabazar-Bhatapara, and Korba have led the state in card distribution. While drone mapping is complete statewide, several other districts are expected to scale up the issuance of physical cards in the coming months.
The digitisation of rural land is expected to drastically reduce property-related disputes and strengthen rural governance. Authorities anticipate that the accelerated distribution of cards will further empower rural families by providing formal recognition of their assets.
