Govt plans to expand police commissionerate system to Durg, Bilaspur: Vijay Sharma
Bilaspur/Durg, May 20: Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma on Wednesday announced plans to expand the police commissionerate system to the rapidly growing urban centres of Durg and Bilaspur. Minister Sharma stated that he will formally request Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to introduce the metropolitan policing model in both cities to strengthen law and order management and improve inter-departmental coordination.
Speaking to reporters, the Home Minister noted that the administrative shift has become necessary as minor inter-departmental issues frequently remain pending under the existing structure. He cited the operational success of the system in the state capital, Raipur, emphasizing that expanded urban regions require more streamlined and empowered policing.
The proposed expansion aims to grant localized police administrations enhanced administrative and legal authority. According to ministry officials, the streamlined command structure is expected to accelerate decision-making, curb urban crime rates, and optimize traffic management across both major districts.
