Raipur,Jan 2: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will chair a crucial cabinet meeting at the Mantralaya on 21 January to finalise several key administrative and policy decisions. The meeting is expected to clear the final blueprint for the Raipur police commissioner system, which is scheduled for implementation on 23 January.
The proposed system aims to strengthen law and order in the state capital by granting magisterial powers to senior police officers. Sources indicate that the cabinet will deliberate on the jurisdictional boundaries of the new commissionerate. While the current plan focuses on urban police stations, discussions are expected on whether to include strategically significant areas like Nava Raipur and the Raipur airport under the new command to ensure operational clarity.
The cabinet will also review coordination protocols between the police and civil administration to avoid jurisdictional overlaps. The implementation of this system, which has been a long-standing demand for the city of 10 lakh people, is expected to streamline decisions regarding arms licensing, bar permits, and the imposition of Section 144 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Beyond administrative reforms, the meeting will focus on the state’s development roadmap. Prosposals related to agricultural policies, industrial growth, and investment promotion under the Chhattisgarh Industrial Development Policy 2024-30 are likely to be cleared. The session is seen as a significant step in the government’s efforts to enhance urban governance and boost the state’s economy ahead of the upcoming budget.
