Addressing a state-level training conference for divisional commissioners and collectors in Raipur, the CM emphasized that the census is a test of administrative credibility and governance transparency.
The Chief Minister stated that the 2027 exercise will be the eighth census since independence and the first to be conducted fully digitally. Data collection will be carried out through mobile applications and web portals to ensure the process remains transparent and effective.
In Chhattisgarh, the first phase involving house listing and enumeration is scheduled from 1 May to 30 May 2026. This phase will cover 33 districts, 252 tehsils, and 19,978 villages across the state.

Chief Secretary Vikassheel, also addressing the conference, termed the census a vital administrative process requiring authentic data collection. He instructed officials to track new building permits in advance to ensure no structures are missed during the house-listing phase.
The Chief Secretary further advised special caution in border districts. He cited experiences from 2001, urging officials to avoid duplication when enumerating citizens who have migrated to states like Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, noted that the Indian census is one of the world’s largest statistical exercises. He informed the gathering that the upcoming census would be the 16th overall since 1872.
