Police book 19 including Anil Agarwal for Vedanta plant blast in Sakti
Raipur, April 16: Sakti police have registered an FIR against 19 individuals, including Vedanta Limited Chairman Anil Agarwal and Plant Head Devendra Patel, following the boiler blast that killed 20 workers. The legal action follows the April 14 explosion at the Singhitrai-based plant, which has left 16 others injured.
The FIR has been lodged under Sections 106, 289, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Preliminary findings by the authorities point toward negligence on the part of the plant management as the cause of the deadly incident.
Of the 20 deceased, official data confirms that five were residents of Chhattisgarh, while the remaining victims belonged to other states. Several injured workers are currently undergoing treatment at private and government hospitals in Raigarh, with critically injured individuals shifted to Raipur for advanced care.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the blast and directed that strict action be taken against those found responsible under labour laws.
