Raipur, May 7: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday welcomed the Union Cabinet’s decision to grant statutory protection to ‘Vande Mataram’ on par with the National Anthem, describing it as a significant step towards honouring India’s cultural consciousness and the legacy of the freedom struggle.
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved an amendment proposal to the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. Chief Minister Sai stated that the decision is a matter of pride for every citizen and reinforces the sanctity of India’s national symbols.
‘Vande Mataram’ has always symbolised the soul of India and served as the primary inspiration behind the independence movement, the Chief Minister noted. He added that the song continues to evoke deep feelings of devotion and service towards the motherland among millions of Indians.
Recalling its historical significance, Sai said the song infused the masses with courage and patriotic fervour during the fight for Independence. He emphasised that granting it legal protection ensures that the dignity of the national song is upheld across the country.
The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the decision, stating that the Central Government has consistently prioritised national pride and cultural heritage.
Sai also appealed to the people of Chhattisgarh to uphold the honour of ‘Vande Mataram’ and all other national symbols, reflecting the collective commitment of the nation towards its identity.
