Raipur, May 13: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has reduced his official convoy from 13 vehicles to eight, responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide appeal for fuel conservation. The Chief Minister also announced that electric vehicles (EVs) will soon be inducted into the state fleet as part of a transition towards sustainable governance.
In a social media post, the Chief Minister emphasised that conserving petrol and diesel is a national duty amid global energy challenges and environmental concerns. He directed that only essential vehicles be used during official visits and urged ministers and heads of state corporations to exercise similar restraint. He further appealed to the public to opt for carpooling and public transport.
Following suit, Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker and former Chief Minister Raman Singh has cut four vehicles from his official entourage. Singh described the move as a step towards fulfilling civic responsibility, noting that the Prime Minister’s message serves as a guiding example for public representatives to adopt simplicity and resourcefulness.
In another significant move, state Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary has decided to forgo pilot and follow vehicles in his official protocol, except during emergencies. Writing on X (formerly Twitter), Choudhary stated that the decision aligns with the Prime Minister’s appeal to safeguard the economy and energy resources against emerging global uncertainties.
These coordinated measures by the state’s top leadership are expected to set a benchmark for administrative efficiency and environmental responsibility across Chhattisgarh.
