Raipur, May 14: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Thursday to provide detailed updates on the evolving security situation and accelerated development initiatives in the Bastar region. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma also attended the high-level meeting.
The discussions primarily focused on the ‘Chief Minister Swasth Bastar Abhiyan’. The Chief Minister informed the Union Home Minister that remote areas, previously inaccessible even to ambulances, are now receiving regular visits from medical teams. Health personnel are reaching interior villages on foot to conduct screenings, ensure early diagnosis of serious ailments, and provide free treatment.
Over 21.86 lakh people have undergone health check-ups in the past month. Digital health profiles have been created for these individuals, and several patients requiring advanced care have been referred to higher medical centres.
Chief Minister Sai highlighted that security camps in Bastar are being repurposed as ‘Jan Suvidha Kendras’ (Public Utility Centres). These hubs offer healthcare, education, banking, and information on government schemes under one roof, eliminating the need for villagers to travel long distances for basic services.
The Swasth Bastar campaign, launched in Sukma on 13 April 2026, aims to cover approximately 36 lakh people. Simultaneously, the ‘Bastar Munne’ campaign is ensuring the 100% saturation of 31 key government schemes at the grassroots level.
The Chief Minister also noted that a new super-speciality hospital has commenced operations in Jagdalpur. This facility is expected to significantly reduce the dependency of local residents on Raipur or Bilaspur for advanced medical treatment. The expansion of Dial-112 services and the transition of security camps into service centres are being viewed as pivotal steps toward long-term regional stability.
Regions once heavily under Naxal influence are now witnessing improved governance. The Chief Minister cited recent successful medical evacuations of critically ill patients from remote Sukma villages as evidence of the shifting ground reality.
A comprehensive development roadmap for Bastar, focusing on road connectivity, education, employment, and skill development, was also presented. The Chief Minister attributed the pace of progress to the guidance provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Home Minister.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah appreciated the expansion of health services and infrastructure in the region. He noted that the coordinated efforts of the Centre and the State are ensuring that welfare benefits reach the last person in the queue. The Union Home Minister is expected to visit Bastar on 18 and 19 May.
