Nearly 45,000 candidates take NEET-UG re-exam amid tight security, isolated protests reported in Raipur and Jagdalpur
Raipur, (VW) The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday conducted the NEET-UG re-examination across 127 centres in Chhattisgarh under heavy security, with nearly 45,000 candidates appearing for the medical entrance test. While the high-stakes exam concluded smoothly at a majority of venues, isolated incidents of administrative confusion and political protests triggered brief tension in Raipur and Jagdalpur.
Administrative oversight caused a commotion outside the Mayaram Surjan Government School centre in Raipur’s Choubey Colony after invigilators mistakenly admitted a candidate past the initial security cordon. Officials realized the cross-venue error 15 minutes later and asked the student to leave for his designated centre, prompting strong protests from his family members outside the gates.
In Bastar district, activists of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a demonstration outside the PG College exam venue in Jagdalpur against the alleged nationwide NEET paper leak. The protest turned volatile when activists tried to breach the security barricades, resulting in a minor scuffle with the police before security forces contained the situation.
District administrations deployed extensive police personnel across all 25 venues in the state capital to enforce strict biometric and document verification guidelines mandated by the NTA. The entry screening process took up to 30 minutes per candidate, though senior officials confirmed that the isolated disruptions did not halt or delay the examination schedule.
