New Delhi, Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned for the day on Tuesday following persistent Opposition protests and sloganeering over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and subsequent police action against demonstrating students.

Proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were repeatedly disrupted before presiding officers adjourned the two Houses till 11:00 AM on Wednesday.

In the Lok Sabha, proceedings were halted thrice during the day as Opposition members stormed the well of the House, raising slogans and ignoring repeated calls to maintain decorum. Presiding officer Dilip Saikia adjourned the House for the day during matters raised under Rule 377 after members paid no heed to requests to return to their seats.

Earlier, Speaker Om Birla and presiding officer Sandhya Ray had adjourned the Lower House till noon and 2:00 PM respectively as chaos continued. Addressing the members, Speaker Birla questioned the reluctance to allow normal business, assuring that every party would get an opportunity to raise their concerns.

Similar scenes unfolded in the Rajya Sabha, where unrelenting Opposition uproar over a police lathi-charge on students protesting the NEET-UG examination paper leak stalled proceedings from the outset. The Upper House was adjourned twice before Deputy Chairman Harivansh Singh suspended business for the day post-2:00 PM.

“I have been repeatedly urging members to maintain order in the House,” Harivansh noted, remarking that the Opposition appeared disinterested in running the House according to established procedures.

The ongoing deadlock has paralysed legislative business in Parliament during the Monsoon Session, with the Opposition demanding accountability, a comprehensive probe, and immediate relief for affected students.
