CM Vishnu Deo Sai reviews flood situation in Dantewada, orders swift relief

Dantewada, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Monday conducted an extensive aerial and ground survey of flood-affected areas in Dantewada and Bastar districts, personally assessing the situation and reviewing ongoing relief measures. Later, Sai chaired a high-level review meeting in Dantewada to assess the flood situation in the Bastar division and direct officials to expedite relief operations. The meeting, which saw the participation of collectors and senior officials from Dantewada, Sukma, Bijapur, and Bastar districts, was held at the Dankani Conference Hall of the District Office.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Tankram Verma, Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap, Bastar MP Mahesh Kashyap, and local MLA Chaitram Atami were also present. Reviewing the damage from the heavy rainfall on August 26–27, the Chief Minister noted that while the estimated loss of life, property, and infrastructure worth ₹115 crore is irreparable, the swift rescue and relief work by the district administrations were commendable.
“The satisfaction expressed by villagers during my interactions is proof that the administration responded swiftly and effectively,” CM Sai said. He also praised government employees for contributing one day’s salary towards relief efforts and lauded the support of voluntary organisations.
The Chief Minister issued specific instructions to officials to continue operating relief and health camps until the situation normalizes. He directed them to ensure timely medical check-ups, maintain medicine availability, and conduct awareness campaigns to prevent outbreaks of diseases like malaria and typhoid. CM Sai also ordered the immediate release of relief funds to affected families and instructed officials to remain in constant contact with the flood-affected people to ensure timely assistance.
Chief Secretary Subodh Kumar Singh instructed district officials to ensure uninterrupted movement on National Highways and to send a proposal to the Centre for repair works. Disaster Management Secretary Reena Baba Saheb Kangale issued instructions for compensation for livestock loss as per updated guidelines, while Health Department Director Dr Priyanka Shukla emphasised continuous door-to-door surveys, water chlorination, and preventive measures to check disease spread.
The collectors of the four districts presented a detailed account of the damage and the ongoing rescue and relief operations, including the evacuation of people, food distribution, medical aid, and arrangements at relief camps. The meeting was also attended by Bastar Divisional Commissioner Doman Singh, IG Bastar Sundarraj P, and the collectors and SPs of the concerned districts.
