Mumbai: Indian equity markets ended sharply higher on Tuesday, extending gains for the fourth consecutive trading session as investors welcomed robust corporate earnings and shifted away from global artificial intelligence-linked trades.

The BSE Sensex jumped 1,225.07 points, or 1.62 per cent, to settle at 76,917.85, while the NSE Nifty climbed 370.05 points, or 1.58 per cent, to close at 23,810.85.

Market sentiment remained buoyant due to encouraging quarterly results from domestic companies, driving investors toward traditional sectors and markets. BSE, Nestle India, and Tata Consumer Products emerged as the top gainers among Nifty constituents, leading the benchmark higher.

The broader market also finished in positive territory, though gains remained relatively muted compared to frontline indices. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose 1.06 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 advanced 0.31 per cent.

Sectorally, fast-moving consumer goods stocks led the rally as the Nifty FMCG index surged nearly 3 per cent amid strong demand prospects. In contrast, the Nifty PSU Bank index underperformed, ending lower against the broader market trend.

Commenting on the technical outlook, market experts noted that the ongoing recovery is encouraging, although the Nifty may encounter resistance in the 23,800–23,900 zone. Analysts reiterated their preference for stocks demonstrating relative strength while advising prudent risk management amid global uncertainties.

The domestic currency traded positively during the session, gaining around 0.15 per cent to 94.74 against the US dollar as cooling commodity prices eased import bill concerns. Analysts added that the rupee’s near-term trajectory will depend on commodity price movements, global dollar trends, and foreign capital inflows.
