Raipur, (VW) Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Tuesday visited a Mart in Sarona, Raipur, to personally assess whether consumers were receiving the benefits of the GST Savings Festival.
Shoppers purchasing daily essentials were pleasantly surprised by the Chief Minister’s visit. During his interaction with customers, Sai personally purchased household items worth ₹1,645 using UPI and sought feedback on the impact of GST rate reductions on their monthly budgets.
He engaged with young people, senior citizens, and housewives, inquiring about their daily routines and views on the GST reforms. Shoppers expressed relief over the reduced prices of medicines, rations, and everyday essentials.
Chief Minister Sai remarked that the reforms were visibly improving the lives of families, stressing that the government’s goal was for the benefits of these policy changes to reach the common people directly.
Sharing their experiences, many shoppers lauded the changes. Retired Air Force officer T P Singh called the GST reforms under Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “historic budget revolution,” noting that families could now purchase more essentials for the same amount of money. Ladda Ram Nainwani highlighted the positive impact on education, pointing out that stationery, previously taxed at 12 per cent, is now tax-free, saving him approximately ₹240 annually.
Shoppers also reported significant changes in their purchasing patterns. Muralidhar, who initially planned to buy four essential items, ended up purchasing four times more due to the lower prices. The Dewangan couple stated their monthly budget had decreased by 10 per cent, while Savita Maurya and Anita Sakar noted that the reduced prices allowed them to buy more cosmetics than planned for the upcoming Navratri celebrations.
