Raipur, Chhattisgarh’s tableau, themed “The Land of Bastar – A Saga of Culture, Creation and Progress,” was a highlight at the grand Ekta Parade in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, today, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The tableau effectively depicted Bastar’s journey from a region of conflict to a symbol of peace, pride, and developmental progress.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the parade and appreciated the artistic diversity, with Chhattisgarh’s entry standing out as a powerful visual narrative of renewal under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai.

The tableau’s front section featured Madia tribal community artists performing the vibrant Gaur dance, accompanied by the resonant sound of the turhi (tribal trumpet), symbolising unity and festivity. The figure of Nandi was also displayed, representing the region’s deep spiritual connection to Lord Shiva.

The middle section powerfully contrasted the past and present, portraying Bastar’s transformation from extremism to empowerment. It highlighted how roads, schools, and hospitals have replaced fear with hope, providing education, healthcare, and employment opportunities. This shift from the “sound of guns” to the “rhythm of development” was presented as a testament to the nation’s journey of renewal.

The rear of the tableau showcased the strength of Bastar’s women driving both tradition and progress, symbolised by a woman carrying a basket. Dhokra art, a local craft, added authenticity, underscoring that development remains deeply rooted in the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Selected after a rigorous evaluation by a committee headed by the Union Home Secretary, the tableau successfully conveyed the story of New Bastar. The narrative emphasised the spread of electricity and internet connectivity, the revival of local economies through forest-based livelihoods, and women-led enterprises, giving the youth a path forward with determination and pride.

The tableau, rooted in faith, art, and nature, and powered by education, infrastructure, and enterprise, stood as a message of dignity, development, and determination, representing a confident, connected, and creative Chhattisgarh.
