Vikas Sheel assumes charge as Chhattisgarh’s Chief Secretary
Raipur, Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Vikas Sheel, a 1994-batch officer, assumed charge as the 13th Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh at the Mantralaya, Mahanadi Bhawan on Tuesday.
Vikas Sheel took charge on the day the incumbent Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain retired on 30 September 2025. Prior to this appointment, he was on central deputation and serving as the Executive Director (India) at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, Philippines.
The IAS officer, who was allocated the erstwhile Madhya Pradesh cadre upon joining the service, was assigned the Chhattisgarh cadre after the state’s formation in November 2000. During his service in the state, he has been posted as Collector of Koriya, Bilaspur, and Raipur districts. He also held key positions as Secretary of the School Education, Food and Civil Supplies, General Administration, and Health departments. He served as the Raipur Collector from April 2007 to April 2008.
Vikas Sheel had been on central deputation with the Government of India since 2018, where he served as Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the Jal Jeevan Mission in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti. He also held the post of Additional Secretary in the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
Born on 10 June 1969, Vikas Sheel holds a BE and ME in Electrical Engineering. He also holds a Master’s and Executive Master’s degree in Public Administration and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Healthcare Management and Policy from Syracuse University, USA.
